Book Baskets (or Expert Packs)
What are Book Baskets, a.k.a Expert Packs?
Book Baskets and Expert Packs are bags, baskets, buckets, or boxes of books, articles, images, audio, video, etc. that are related by topic or concept and are meant for students to explore independently. With each text, students consider questions, ideas, find interesting vocabulary, and interact with the texts. Why Book Baskets/Expert Packs? Book Baskets and Expert Packs include a guide (print copy or hyperdoc) that is intentionally designed to build knowledge, vocabulary, and reading skill as students progress through the basket/pack. This approach differs from the practice of having students read books that are unrelated but selected because they fall within their ordained Lexile ranges. |
